Glaucoma - The Best Protection Is Early Detection
Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness: 70 million people worldwide are affected. Early detection can prevent loss of vision. Following the example of many hospital glaucoma clinics, Daybell and Choo have invested in a Heidelberg Retina Tomograph.
Current glaucoma tests involve three examinations, eye pressure, visual fields and subjective examination of the optic nerve head ( ONH ). However, the Heidelberg Retina Tomograph allows objective analysis of the ONH with measurable results and software which allows it to detect subtle change over time and also utilises data from the world famous Moorfields eye hospital in London.
The examination only takes a few seconds. A high resolution laser scanning camera takes a series of 3-D scans of the optic nerve and measures up to 28 million individual points per exam. This provides objective results with maximum precision and reliable detection of the disease, years before any noticeable symptoms appear, such as loss of peripheral vision.
If there is a history of glaucoma in your family then regular screening is strongly advised to detect any early changes. Please contact us for further information about advanced glaucoma screening options at Daybell & Choo
